I had decided I was in the mood for a “cozy” mystery novel and chose a book from the Southern Sisters mystery series by Anne George. Since Anne George has passed away, I tend to savor her novels.
The particular Southern Sisters mystery I chose this time was Murder Makes Waves. Once again the sisters from the south, the ever polite Patricia Ann and the boisterous Mary Alice, find trouble. They head down to Mary Alice’s condo for some adventure and an all-girls getaway at the beach. It seems that they get a little more adventure than they bargain for when the girls stumble across a body on the beach. Not just any body either-it was someone they knew from the condo complex. It was murder! Things just keep getting more complicated when the sassy siblings come across yet another body. As the sisters and their crew poke around and find out more information, could they be in danger too? A threatening phone call seems to confirm this danger and there is no shortage of suspects.
I really enjoy this series. The dynamic between the two sisters is perfect; a lot of humor and a lot of heart. Their personalities are so vibrant. Patricia Ann is the picture of southern dignity; well-mannered, generous and thoughtful to a fault. She is definitely no patsy, though; she has plenty of spark and fire when she needs it, along with a great sense of humor. Mary Alice, on the other hand is the polar opposite of her demure sister. She is outspoken with a wild sense of style and a thirst for adventure. Her blunt talk sometimes gets her in trouble, but her caring personality still manages to show. The sisters compliment each other well and the cast of characters that accompany them only add to their charm.
